πŸš€ Ethereum Foundation Researcher To Unveil Major Consensus Layer Plan

According to Odaily, Justin Drake, a core researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, announced on platform X that he will reveal a significant plan on the main stage of Devcon tomorrow at 5 PM UTC+8. Drake has spent the past year contemplating a complete redesign of Ethereum's consensus layer. His objective is to propose a robust strategy for launching an ambitious and exciting roadmap for the beacon chain within a reasonable timeframe.

Drake's proposal comes after months of collaboration with researchers and consensus developers. He expressed readiness to publicly present his ideas, emphasizing the importance of community involvement. While it is still early in the process, Drake highlighted that achieving preliminary consensus on this new approach to the consensus layer roadmap is crucial. The Ethereum community's participation will be vital in shaping the future direction of this initiative.

πŸš€ Ethereum Foundation Releases Q3 2024 Grant Update

According to PANews, the Ethereum Foundation has published its update on grants for the third quarter of 2024, revealing a total funding amount of $12.848 million. The grants cover a wide range of areas including community education, consensus layer development, cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs, developer experience and tools, execution layer, and Layer 2 solutions.

Community education projects received the largest share of the funding. Notable events supported include the EEA Industry Day conference held in Bangkok, Thailand, and the ETH Pura Vida conference and hackathon in San JosΓ©, Costa Rica. These initiatives aim to foster greater understanding and engagement within the Ethereum community.

In the technical domain, the foundation continues to back the development of consensus layer clients such as Lighthouse, Nimbus, and Grandine. Additionally, it supports the upgrade and maintenance of development tools like Web3.js and OpenZeppelin's account abstraction contracts. The report also highlights the foundation's financial support for several research projects related to zero-knowledge proofs, underscoring its commitment to advancing cryptographic research.

πŸš€ Ethereum Faces Technical Challenges With Gas Limit Expansion

According to Odaily, Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni WahrstΓ€tter recently highlighted the technical challenges associated with expanding the Ethereum block gas limit, urging the community to remain patient. The Ethereum community is currently discussing the possibility of increasing the gas limit, a change that could enhance network capacity but also pose risks to stability and security. WahrstΓ€tter emphasized the limitations related to the consensus layer (CL) client specifications, noting that without significant protocol upgrades, surpassing the current 36 million gas threshold is not feasible.

Meanwhile, Ethereum developers are preparing for the Pectra 2 network upgrade to address these challenges. This hard fork includes two key proposals aimed at laying the groundwork for higher gas limits. The first proposal, EIP-7623, seeks to reduce the worst-case block size by mitigating DoS risks and achieving a safer capacity increase. The second proposal, EIP-7691, aims to increase the target and maximum number of blobs per block, providing empirical data on network performance under higher storage and propagation demands.

πŸš€ Ethereum Developers Discuss Consensus Layer Upgrades and Future Plans

According to Odaily, the 157th Ethereum Consensus Layer Core Developers Meeting (ACDC) has been held, focusing on several key developments. The Pectra upgrade has been successfully completed, with core developer Trent summarizing technical feedback from various teams. The "Pectra Pages" remain open for more community input. Meanwhile, Pari is analyzing the impact of increased blob data.

In the Fusaka direction, peerdas-devnet-7 is running stably, and client teams are concentrating on developing BPO support. The goal is to launch fusaka-devnet-0 on May 26, which will include PeerDAS, BPO, and MODEXP gas cost increases as part of the EIP. Discussions on validator hosting specifications are ongoing asynchronously on Discord.

The ACD meeting structure is proposed to undergo reorganization. Tim has suggested focusing ACDT on the current fork (N) and ACDE/C on the next fork (N+1). This structural adjustment aims to involve the broader community earlier in the proposal development process and establish a mechanism to track EIP proposals from inception to mainnet implementation. The new proposal structure is expected to lock in main functions by early July, with smaller EIPs integrated subsequently.

πŸš€ TRON Community Discusses Mainnet Upgrade Proposal

According to Odaily, the TRON community is currently discussing a proposal for the mainnet 4.8.0 version upgrade. This update aims to support the Ethereum Cancun upgrade and optimize the consensus layer verification mechanism. Based on the core developers' meeting resolution, the proposal is expected to enter the voting process on June 23, 2025, at UTC+8. Once enacted, the TRON mainnet will activate new virtual machine instructions to ensure compatibility with the Ethereum Cancun upgrade and introduce a new consensus layer verification mechanism, enhancing the consistency and effectiveness of transaction execution. The discussion remains open, allowing users to participate in the process.

πŸš€ Ethereum Developers Finalize Fusaka Upgrade Details

According to PANews, the 214th Ethereum Execution Layer Core Developers Meeting revisited previous decisions and agreed to maintain the Fusaka upgrade's scope with the addition of EIP 7939. Developers confirmed the inclusion of 12 EIPs in the Fusaka upgrade: EIP-7594, EIP-7823, EIP-7825, EIP-7883, EIP-7892, EIP-7917, EIP-7918, EIP-7935, EIP-7951, EIP-7907, EIP-7934, and the newly added EIP-7939.

Adjustments were made to certain EIP implementation details, including reducing the contract code size limit in EIP-7907 from 256KB to 48KB, modifying the blob base fee parameter in EIP-7918 from 2^14 to 2^13, and transferring the maximum blob count parameter from EIP-7892 to EIP-7594. The meeting concluded that Fusaka Devnet 2 would launch on June 23, provided at least three consensus layer and three execution layer client teams are ready.

Additionally, developers discussed two new proposals for the Glamsterdam upgrade. However, due to insufficient testing data, some parameter adjustments will be postponed to the Devnet 3 phase.

πŸš€ Ethereum Client Prysm Releases Analysis on Fusaka Mainnet Issue

According to ChainCatcher, the Prysm team, responsible for the Ethereum consensus layer client, has published an analysis report on the Fusaka mainnet issue. During the incident, nearly all Prysm nodes experienced resource exhaustion while processing specific proofs, resulting in an inability to respond promptly to validator requests. The fault affected epochs 411439 to 411480, with 248 blocks lost across 42 epochs, leading to a missing rate of 18.5%. Network participation dropped to a low of 75%, and validators lost approximately 382 ETH in proof rewards.

The root cause was identified as Prysm beacon nodes receiving proofs from potentially unsynchronized nodes, which referenced block roots from previous rounds. To verify these proofs, Prysm attempted to reconstruct compatible states, causing repeated processing of past round blocks and costly recalculations of round conversions. The team temporarily addressed the issue by advising users to use the --disable-last-epoch-target parameter. Future versions v7.1 and v7.1.0 will include long-term solutions.

πŸš€ Ethereum Developers Plan 'Glamsterdam' Upgrade for 2026

According to BlockBeats, Ethereum developers have initiated plans for the 'Glamsterdam' upgrade, aiming for a 2026 launch following the successful Fusaka upgrade, which reduced node costs. The name 'Glamsterdam' combines two simultaneous upgrades on Ethereum's core layers. The execution layer, responsible for transaction rules and smart contracts, will undergo the Amsterdam upgrade, while the consensus layer, which coordinates validators and finalizes blocks, will experience the Gloas upgrade. The upgrade focuses on proposer-builder separation (ePBS) and block-level access control lists to minimize manipulation and abuse opportunities related to maximum extractable value (MEV).
