🚀 US DOJ Sentences 12 For Cryptocurrency Theft In Violent Home Invasions

According to Odaily, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) recently announced the sentencing of 12 individuals involved in a series of violent home invasions aimed at stealing cryptocurrency. Remy Ra St Felix from West Palm Beach, Florida, who led the operation, received a 47-year prison sentence. The crimes involved the theft of over $3.5 million in digital assets. The convicted individuals included several criminals responsible for planning and executing the robberies, which spanned multiple states.

Court records reveal that St Felix and his accomplices used SIM card swapping to take control of victims' phone numbers, thereby gaining access to their cryptocurrency accounts. Once they had control of these accounts, they conducted home invasions, binding and threatening victims with firearms to obtain access to computers and cryptocurrency trading accounts, facilitating the theft of digital currencies. The DOJ added that the conspirators laundered the stolen funds through anonymity-enhanced cryptocurrencies, 'instant exchanges,' and decentralized exchanges (DEX) that do not require Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures.

One of the main accomplices, Seemungal, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay $4,038,479.39 in restitution. Seemungal pleaded guilty on December 19, 2023, to charges of hacking victims' cryptocurrency accounts and committing home invasions. A total of nine co-conspirators received long-term prison sentences for conspiracy to kidnap, while other key participants were penalized for their involvement.

🚀 Amouranth Targeted In Home Invasion Amid Rising Crypto Attacks

According to Cointelegraph, popular streamer Amouranth, whose real name is Kaitlyn Siragusa, reported a home invasion on March 2, where robbers allegedly demanded cryptocurrency. Amouranth shared her experience on X, stating that the intruders were yelling for crypto. In November 2024, she had revealed her holdings of approximately 211 Bitcoin, valued at $20 million at the time, and around $80,000 in Ether.

On March 3, Amouranth provided an update, mentioning that three armed men were involved in the incident. She shared a video, presumably from a security camera, showing the men being led to another part of her property before three loud noises were heard, causing the intruders to flee. Amouranth is known for her transparency regarding her finances, having appeared on a YouTube personal finance show and sharing her earnings from various platforms. She gained fame on Twitch as the most-watched female streamer in 2021 and 2022 and has recently expanded her presence to OnlyFans.

The incident involving Amouranth is part of a series of high-profile 'crypto wrench' attacks in 2025, where individuals are threatened with physical harm to surrender their cryptocurrency. In January, a Canadian volunteer moderator of a crypto forum reportedly went into hiding after an attempted kidnapping aimed at forcing him to transfer his Bitcoin. On January 21, David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, was allegedly abducted from his home, with the kidnappers demanding a crypto ransom. Another similar incident was reported in February 2025 in Chicago.

As highlighted by 'Dr. Anon' in Cointelegraph Magazine, these attacks are often life-threatening situations orchestrated by organized criminals. However, individuals can mitigate potential losses by maintaining a 'decoy' crypto wallet containing a small portion of their funds.

🚀 Tech Investor's San Francisco Home Targeted in Armed Robbery, $11 Million in Crypto Stolen

According to BlockBeats, a tech investor who previously dated OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman was the victim of an armed robbery at his San Francisco residence last Saturday night, resulting in the theft of $11 million in cryptocurrency assets.

Surveillance footage reveals the suspect disguised as a delivery person, carrying a white package, and ringing the doorbell of the $4.4 million home. The suspect falsely identified himself as 'Joshua' and claimed to be a UPS partner employee. Upon opening the door and confirming his identity as Joshua, the victim was followed inside by the suspect, leading to a loud commotion.

Police sources indicate that the suspect held the victim at gunpoint, bound him with tape, and emptied his crypto accounts, also stealing his phone and computer. When police arrived at 6:45 p.m., they found the victim with multiple bruises. Investigators believe the gunman, who stole Ethereum and Bitcoin valued at $11 million, was part of an organized crime group.

Witnesses describe the suspect torturing the victim after binding him, beating him while on speakerphone with someone who had a foreign accent and was reciting the victim's personal information. The robbers emptied all of his crypto wallets within approximately 90 minutes.

The homeowner, 31-year-old Lachy Groom, is a venture capitalist and former boyfriend of 40-year-old Sam Altman. Property records show he purchased the home from Altman's brother in 2021 for $1.8 million.
