🚀 ZA Bank Reports Mid-Year Performance with Significant Growth

According to Odaily, ZA Bank has announced its mid-year performance results, revealing a 43% increase in total assets, reaching HKD 20 billion as of June 30, 2024. This milestone makes ZA Bank the first digital bank in Hong Kong to achieve monthly profitability. Public data indicates that ZA Bank has seen a 60% growth in new account openings, now serving over 800,000 users, which constitutes 13% of Hong Kong's bankable population. Additionally, more than half of these users have set ZA Bank as their default receiving bank for the Faster Payment System (FPS). Among the younger Generation Z demographic, ZA Bank has achieved a 25% penetration rate.

Following the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's announcement of the stablecoin issuer sandbox participants, ZA Bank declared itself as the first local digital bank to offer exclusive reserve banking services for stablecoin issuers. This positions ZA Bank among the first banks in Hong Kong to provide such services.

🚀 Virtual Currency Gains Popularity Among Hong Kong Investors

According to Odaily, Futu has released the '2025 Hong Kong Individual Investor Survey Report,' revealing that virtual currencies are increasingly becoming the preferred asset allocation for the new generation. The report highlights that 77% of Generation X virtual currency investors, born in 1980 or earlier, are optimistic about the long-term appreciation potential of Bitcoin. Meanwhile, Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2006, places greater emphasis on the convenience and security of virtual currency investments. They believe that owning 'two Bitcoins' provides more security compared to the 'million-dollar down payment' required for property ownership. The proportion of Generation Z optimistic about virtual assets is three times that of those favoring real estate. Additionally, the report indicates that the top five trading frequency sectors for 2024 are AI technology, new energy, WSB popular concept stocks, virtual currency concept stocks, and health pharmaceuticals.

🚀 Survey Reveals Growing Cryptocurrency Ownership Among Americans

According to Odaily, a joint survey conducted by GameFi platform ChainPlay and Storible indicates that over 68% of surveyed Americans currently own some form of cryptocurrency. The survey also reveals that 77% of respondents are considering increasing their cryptocurrency investments by 2025, with 60% of investors believing their assets will double in value by that year.

The findings highlight that 50% of cryptocurrency holders are from the Baby Boomer generation, nearly 30% are Millennials, and the remainder belong to Generation Z. The report's authors conclude that cryptocurrency holders are becoming increasingly younger. Notably, the report lacks representation from Generation X, raising questions about the survey's comprehensiveness.

The report does not specify the demographics of the respondents or the methodology used by ChainPlay and Storible to select participants. Other sources suggest that as of November 2024, only 13% of surveyed Americans own cryptocurrency.

🚀 Nepal's Former Rapper Poised to Become Prime Minister After Parliamentary Election

Nepal held its first parliamentary election last Thursday following last year's "Generation Z" protests that led to the government's overthrow. According to Ming Pao, the election results indicate that 35-year-old former rapper and prime ministerial candidate, Shah, who previously served as the mayor of Kathmandu, is likely to become the next prime minister. Shah, supported by young voters, is part of the centrist emerging party, the National Independent Party, which is expected to secure nearly two-thirds of the parliamentary seats. Shah directly challenged the 74-year-old former Prime Minister Oli, who was ousted last year, and won his constituency by a significant margin.

🚀 Nepal's Former Prime Minister Arrested Over Alleged Crackdown on Protests

Nepal's former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak were arrested early Saturday in Kathmandu. According to Ming Pao, the arrests are linked to allegations of ordering a crackdown on anti-government protests by the 'Generation Z' demographic, which took place on September 8 and 9 last year. Reports indicate that Oli has denied the accusations and was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment under heavy police escort.

The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), to which Oli belongs, has condemned the arrests as political retaliation and has called for nationwide protests demanding the government's decision be reversed. Demonstrations demanding Oli's release and clashes between protesters and police occurred in some regions on the same day.

An official investigation report released this month highlighted that the 'Generation Z' protests, which led to the downfall of Oli's government, resulted in at least 77 deaths. Among the 63 autopsies conducted, 48 individuals died from gunshot wounds, with most shots targeting the head and chest. The report stated that although it could not confirm who issued the order to open fire, Oli and Lekhak failed to take measures to prevent casualties or stop the shooting, attributing the loss of life to their negligence.
