🚀 Aave Founder Proposes Measures for Ethereum Foundation's Sustainability

According to Odaily, Aave founder Stani Kulechov recently shared his insights on social media after reviewing the Ethereum Foundation's annual budget report. He outlined several measures aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the Ethereum Foundation (EF).

Kulechov suggested an immediate reduction in spending from $130 million to $30 million and proposed decreasing the staff count to 80. He emphasized the need for a thorough review of personnel, advocating for the removal of senior positions, consultants, part-time roles, interns, and any non-essential staff. He also recommended prohibiting advisors or any conflicts of interest.

He stressed that 80% of the workforce should consist of technical personnel, with technical teams divided into small groups of five, each focusing on specific areas and expertise. Leadership should be a five-member committee selected based on performance, with one member acting as chairperson responsible for VB.

For non-technical teams, Kulechov advised focusing on internal financial management. He also recommended diversifying financial investments into various long-term sustainable assets, including DeFi and non-DeFi projects with strong fundamentals and profitability, built on Ethereum.

Additionally, he suggested diversifying staking returns into stablecoins and investing funds in DeFi. Kulechov proposed borrowing from Aave for financial management and timing sales when ETH outperforms other assets.

Finally, he advocated for creating a sustainable revenue model from transaction or staking fees to support a reasonable EF budget.

🚀 Cow DAO Proposes Revenue Model Changes on CoW Protocol

According to BlockBeats, on January 22, Cow DAO introduced a proposal titled 'CIP-61: Price Improvement Share, Revenue Share, and Fees on CoW Protocol' on Snapshot. The proposal aims to implement a specific method to finalize the revenue model experiment. The primary objective is to maintain price improvement sharing as the main revenue model while allowing the testing of new strategies related to price improvement sharing and fees. If approved, the proposal will take effect on February 1, 2025.

Additionally, the CIP introduces an option for partners to charge fees on transactions attributed to their user traffic, alongside CoW DAO's revenue-sharing model. Should the proposal be accepted, CoW DAO retains the ability to modify these revenue models, including price improvement sharing, revenue sharing, and fee structures, through new proposals at any time.

🚀 Gitcoin to Close Grants Lab Amid Evolving Ecosystem Challenges

According to BlockBeats, Gitcoin co-founder Kevin Owocki announced on social media that the organization will shut down its main software development division, Grants Lab, and part ways with several talented team members. This decision marks one of the most challenging moments since Gitcoin's inception.

The closure is attributed to shifts in the ecosystem, including evolving public goods funding methods, the maturation of Layer 2 ecosystems, innovative collaboration mechanisms, and the emergence of new competitors. Additionally, key members of Grants Lab have departed, and the team lacks a clear, sustainable revenue model in its current form, leading to financial expenditures exceeding manageable limits.

As a result, Grants Lab will not apply for the budget for the second half of 2025, and remaining funds will be allocated for severance compensation for affected employees. Gitcoin has committed to supporting the transition of departing staff with respect and care.

🚀 Uniswap Founder Criticizes Aerodrome's Revenue Model

According to Odaily, Uniswap founder Hayden Adams has publicly criticized Aerodrome CEO Alexander over the liquidity provider (LP) fee revenue model. Adams expressed his concerns on the X platform, stating that Alexander's claim of Aerodrome's platform revenue being five times that of Uniswap is misleading. He explained that Aerodrome collects 100% of LP fees and returns them to LPs through token issuance or liquidity incentives, which inflates revenue figures without representing sustainable fees. Adams argued that this approach creates an illusion of income without meaningful substance. He noted that if Uniswap were to adopt a similar model, its reported 'fee revenue' could reach $1 billion. However, Uniswap's fee structure is designed differently, with a portion of exchange fees allocated to the protocol and the majority directly benefiting LPs. The aim is to ensure long-term sustainability rather than superficially high figures.
