🚀 Bitcoin Developer Proposes Quantum-Resistant Address Migration Protocol

According to Foresight News, Bitcoin developer Agustin Cruz has introduced a draft Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) named the Quantum-Resistant Address Migration Protocol (QRAMP) to the Bitcoin-Dev mailing list. This proposal includes code for a hard fork consensus change aimed at migrating UTXOs vulnerable to quantum attacks.
If QRAMP gains consensus and is activated in the main version of the Bitcoin Core full node software, a countdown will commence. By the deadline, users who have not transferred their coins to quantum-resistant wallets will face transaction rejections by Bitcoin Core for any attempts to spend funds from Legacy wallets. This effectively removes these coins from circulation.
Currently, the BIP remains in draft form and has not yet been assigned a BIP number.#Bitcoin #BIP #QuantumResistant #AddressMigration #Cryptocurrency #AgustinCruz #Blockchain #Security #HardFork #UTXO #BTC
🚀 Bitcoin Unit Proposal Sparks Debate Over Simplification

According to PANews, a proposal by core developer and Synonym CEO John Carvalho has stirred controversy within the Bitcoin community. As the community focuses on enhancing user experience, developing custody solutions, lobbying for regulation, and attracting institutions, Carvalho has suggested a simpler approach: abolishing the 'satoshi' unit and removing decimal points to lower the cognitive barrier for newcomers.
In a BIP proposal from December 2024, Carvalho advocated for redefining the 100 million satoshis that make up one Bitcoin as simply 'Bitcoin.' For instance, a transaction currently displayed as 0.00010000 BTC would appear as 10,000 BTC under the new system, fundamentally altering the perception of 'Bitcoin millionaires.'
This proposal quickly sparked debate. Critics mockingly referred to the 'pizza theory,' suggesting that if each slice of pizza were called a 'whole,' one would need to order eight 'wholes' to satisfy their needs, highlighting the absurdity of unit inflation. Many community members are concerned that expanding the total from 21 million to 2.1 trillion units could undermine the narrative of Bitcoin's scarcity.
Despite the opposition, Carvalho's proposal may be gaining traction. On April 25, he posted on the X platform, stating, "Though still a minority, more people are beginning to accept the idea of calling Bitcoin's smallest unit 'Bitcoin' and eliminating decimal points."#Bitcoin #satoshi #BIP #cryptocurrency #userexperience #Bitcoinmillionaires #regulation #digitalcurrency #Bitcoincommunity #debate #BTC
🚀 Bitcoin's Resilience Against Quantum Computing Threats Discussed by Michael Saylor

According to PANews, Michael Saylor, founder of Strategy, recently addressed concerns about quantum computing's potential threat to Bitcoin during an interview with CNBC. Saylor downplayed the risks, suggesting that Bitcoin's protocol could be updated through software upgrades to counter any imminent threats. He remarked that the notion of quantum computing as a threat is largely a marketing tactic by those promoting new quantum concept tokens. Saylor emphasized that major companies like Google and Microsoft would not sell computers capable of breaking modern encryption, as it would be detrimental to their interests, as well as to the U.S. government and banking systems.
Various solutions are being explored to make Bitcoin's proof-of-work (PoW) resistant to quantum attacks, including quantum-resistant encryption hardware developed by startups like BTQ. A Bitcoin developer has submitted a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) suggesting a hard fork to migrate wallet addresses to quantum-secure addresses. Saylor highlighted that the Bitcoin protocol undergoes annual upgrades, with phishing attacks posing a more significant security threat. He concluded that Bitcoin is a protocol with software that is updated yearly. However, not everyone agrees with Saylor's perspective. A recent report by Presto Research indicated that the crypto industry is "unprepared" for the impending quantum threat.#Bitcoin #QuantumComputing #MichaelSaylor #Cybersecurity #Encryption #Blockchain #Cryptocurrency #PoW #BIP #Update #Phishing #TechNews #BTC
🚀 Bitcoin Improvement Proposal Aims to Address Quantum Computing Threats

According to PANews, Casa's CTO Jameson Lopp, along with five developers, has introduced a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) to phase out address types vulnerable to quantum computing attacks. This initiative seeks to address the unprecedented threat posed by quantum computers to Bitcoin private key security. The proposal includes measures to prohibit transactions to high-risk addresses and aims to prevent the spending of such Bitcoin within five years. This affects approximately 25% of existing Bitcoin, including the one million coins owned by Satoshi Nakamoto. Additionally, the proposal suggests future BIPs to securely recover frozen assets. Research indicates that a successful quantum attack could lead to significant economic disruption across the Bitcoin ecosystem.#Bitcoin #QuantumComputing #BIP #CryptoSecurity #Blockchain #SatoshiNakamoto #CryptoAssets #EconomicDisruption #BTC
