πŸ“° Steam streaming on Proxmox doesn't require GPU passthrough, and my LXC setup proves it

I've been wanting to turn my Strix Halo box into a game streaming server for months, and the only thing stopping me was the dread of VFIO GPU passthrough. It's a pain: block the driver, wrangle IOMMU groups, dedicate the entire GPU to one VM, and pray that the next kernel update doesn't break everything. My homelab already runs half a dozen services on Proxmox, and giving up the only GPU in the machine to a single VM just feels wasteful.

πŸ“° KDE Plasma 6.7 vs. GNOME Shell 50.3 vs. Xfce 4.20 On CachyOS With NVIDIA Graphics

Earlier this month I provided a look at the KDE Plasma 6.7 Wayland vs. X11 session performance for graphics/gaming on CachyOS using NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 graphics. Since then Phoronix readers -- including some premium supporters -- requested seeing some additional desktops tested with the latest CachyOS packages. So here we are now with seeing how KDE Plasma 6.7 compared to the Wayland-only GNOME Shell 50.

πŸ“° This Docker container converts any file to any format, so I stopped trusting sketchy websites with my private documents

Whether it’s productivity tools, media managers, or game servers, I stick to free and open-source apps as much as possible. After all, they’re completely private from the prying eyes of random companies, and I don’t have to spend dozens of dollars on monthly subscriptions to unlock essential features. With containerized images, I can even host FOSS tools on a server node and access them from the rest of my devices.

πŸ“° CachyOS rebuilds every package the 'wrong' way, and my Steam library runs faster for it

There's a set of unwritten rules that every Linux distribution follows, and I never thought about them until I found the one distro that doesn't. Compile for the oldest CPU anyone might own. Ship the mainline kernel. Use Valve's Proton, because Valve knows best. I've been running CachyOS on my ROG Ally X and my laptop for a while now, and it breaks every single one of those rules on purpose. It even skipped the Open Gaming Collective, the...

πŸ“° Ubuntu 26.10 will let you check your PC’s official certified status

Wondering if your laptop or desktop PC is Ubuntu Certified? Ubuntu 26.10 is adding a way to check from the Settings app. A new row in Settings > System > About reads β€œcheck if this computer is Ubuntu Certified”. Clicking it opens a new page that will read the local/cached status from the com.ubuntu.hwctl service (the Canonical hardware API introduced in 2025).
