๐Ÿš€ Elon Musk Responds to Calls for Roger Ver's Pardon Amid Legal Troubles

According to Odaily, Elon Musk has responded to calls from X users advocating for a pardon for early Bitcoin investor Roger Ver, also known as 'Bitcoin Jesus.' Musk stated that he would 'inquire' into the matter. Roger Ver is currently facing charges from the U.S. Department of Justice, including mail fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns. He was arrested in Spain and the United States is seeking his extradition for trial.

Roger Ver renounced his U.S. citizenship on February 4, 2014, and moved abroad. Despite this, U.S. law requires him to file tax returns reporting capital gains from the sale of global assets, including Bitcoin. The Department of Justice alleges that Ver's actions have resulted in a loss of at least $48 million to the Internal Revenue Service.

๐Ÿš€ Sam Bankman-Fried Seeks New Trial over FTX Fraud Charges

Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the convicted former CEO of FTX, is seeking a new trial. According to CoinDesk, his mother recently filed an application with a New York federal court, claiming that new evidence has emerged in the case and that the related fraud charges should be retried.Currently, SBF is advancing this application pro se. According to legal procedures, he must demonstrate the existence of significant new evidence that could affect the original verdict to have a chance at obtaining a new trial.SBF was previously sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the FTX collapse and has continued to challenge the judgment through appeals and other means. His past defense has emphasized that FTX was not completely insolvent at the time of its collapse. However, appellate court judges have pointed out that the core of the case lies in whether customer funds were misappropriated and investors were misled, not the company's solvency.U.S. President Trump recently stated that he would not consider granting SBF a pardon.

๐Ÿš€ Sam Bankman-Fried's Parents Challenge Conviction, Claim FTX Funds Fully Repaid

Sam Bankman-Fried's parents, Barbara Fried and Joseph Bankman, have publicly challenged the conviction of their son in a CNN interview, asserting that FTX customer funds have been fully repaid. According to Odaily, Joseph Bankman stated that 'the funds have always been there,' claiming that FTX's subsidiaries possess billions in additional assets. Barbara Fried mentioned that all parties have received full repayment with interest ranging from 18% to 43%.

By the end of March, the FTX Recovery Trust is set to conduct its fourth distribution, expected to release approximately $2.2 billion, bringing the total recovery amount to around $10 billion. Certain categories of U.S. customers are anticipated to achieve 100% recovery, with one category reaching 120%. However, all distributions are calculated in dollars based on asset prices at the time of the bankruptcy filing in November 2022, when Bitcoin was valued at approximately $16,800, compared to its current price of about $69,000. FTX creditor representative Sunil Kavuri publicly stated that 'FTX creditors have not received full repayment.'

Joseph Bankman described the transfer of customer funds to Alameda Research as routine lending, a claim that contradicts proposed regulations in Hong Kong, the EU, and the U.S. prohibiting the commingling of customer assets following FTX's collapse. Barbara Fried characterized the prosecution as 'essentially political.' The family is advocating for a pardon from U.S. President Donald Trump, although Trump indicated in a January interview with the New York Times that he would not consider pardoning Sam Bankman-Fried. The probability of this event occurring is listed at 12% on Polymarket. Sam Bankman-Fried's appeal is still ongoing.
