According to PANews, former professional skier Ryan James Wedding and 15 others have been indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly operating a drug trafficking organization that transported cocaine from Colombia through Mexico to the United States and Canada. The group is accused of committing multiple murders and using cryptocurrency to evade law enforcement.
The indictment states that defendant Bonilla used Tether cryptocurrency to pay Wedding and Clark for two kilograms of cocaine. They sent a QR code to the drug dealers to receive payment in USDT. During the investigation, authorities seized over $3.2 million worth of cryptocurrency, more than a ton of cocaine, three firearms, dozens of rounds of ammunition, and $255,400 in cash.
Authorities report that Wedding is currently on the run. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and extradition. After several days without contact, Roman Novak's relatives reported them missing. Russian and UAE authorities initiated an investigation, suspecting the couple was lured under false pretenses to a rented villa, where the business meeting turned into a kidnapping for ransom. The kidnappers attempted to force Roman Novak to hand over substantial cryptocurrency funds, allegedly stored in wallets and accounts linked to his application and previous fraudulent activities.
