🚀 Qatar and Japan's Jera to Sign Long-Term LNG Agreement

Qatar is reportedly set to sign a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales agreement with Japan's largest utility company, Jera. According to Jin10, this deal marks a significant turnaround in the fuel trade between the two nations, which had previously declined. QatarEnergy will supply Jera with approximately 3 million tons of LNG annually, with the agreement potentially being announced as early as this week.

Data shows that Qatar supplied around 3.3 million tons of LNG to Japan last year, a decrease from about 10 million tons in 2017. This new agreement is expected to bolster Qatar's position in the Japanese market, which had been diminishing as Japan, the world's second-largest LNG buyer, shifted towards more flexible supply options from competitors like the United States.

Meanwhile, Qatar is advancing a major expansion plan to nearly double its export capacity to 142 million tons by 2030, making stable customers crucial for its growth strategy.
