Breakthroughs in medicine led by AI innovation

Significant progress is being made in medical science, driven by artificial intelligence. Developments such as Eli Lilly's retatrutide, a triple agonist, are showing remarkable results in addressing obesity, a condition that has increased dramatically since the Industrial Revolution. New data indicate retatrutide can substantially reduce body fat and associated complications.

Recent advances also highlight innovative therapies for cancers previously considered difficult to treat, including melanoma and pancreatic cancer. In addition to their primary effects, GLP-1 agonists are demonstrating noteworthy anti-inflammatory benefits.

Experts refer to these developments as part of a "golden age of science," with new possibilities continuously emerging.

πŸ“’ The U.S. just put frontier AI on a cyber-defense footing

The Trump administration has signed an executive order that could quietly reshape the AI race. Under the new framework, the most powerful AI systems especially models capable of advanced cyber operations will be assessed using classified government benchmarks. Even the threshold for what qualifies as a β€œcovered frontier model” is secret.

The key detail: developers can voluntarily provide the government access to qualifying models up to 30 days before public release.

The stated goal isn’t licensing or slowing AI development. Instead, Washington wants early access to cutting-edge systems that could strengthen U.S. cyber defense capabilities before they reach the broader market.

In effect, the U.S. is signaling that frontier AI is no longer viewed solely as a commercial technology. It’s increasingly being treated as a strategic national-security asset.

China has introduced a virtual reality shooting experience that transforms shopping malls into interactive play areas.

Participants use gun controllers equipped with smartphones, allowing for real-time augmented reality overlays. The system projects virtual enemies and effects directly onto the actual mall environment through the device’s camera feed.

This technology blends digital gaming elements with physical locations, creating a mixed-reality environment within public spaces.

Microrobots aid recovery in mice with spinal cord injuries

Researchers developed six-micrometre stem-cell microrobots, guided by magnetic fields, to help recover movement in mice with severed spinal cords. These microrobots transformed stem cells into neurons through wireless stimulation, eliminating the need for implanted electrodes.

After 28 days, connected nerve cells improved movement in the mice, with no adverse effects noted. A similar approach in zebrafish showed quicker recovery, with near-normal swimming in just three days.

These scalable microrobots can be produced on a lab-on-a-chip within thirty minutes and dissolve after use, with potential applications in areas like cardiology and wound healing.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Marco Rubio warns Americans to prepare now for a future where artificial intelligence rapidly replaces millions of jobs, forcing workers to learn new skills or risk being left behind.

Rubio says the AI revolution won't just threaten blue-collar work, warning that millions of white-collar professionals could soon find themselves replaced by machines.

"There will be white-collar jobs that will be impacted."

"That over time could destabilize societies all over the world."

πŸ—£οΈ AI may be changing the way humans speak.

According to Harvard-trained linguist Adam Aleksic, one of the clearest signs is a surprisingly ordinary word: β€œdelve.”

Since ChatGPT launched, usage of the word has reportedly surged by around 1,000%.

Why? Aleksic argues it’s partly a result of how AI models are trained. Human reviewers in regions where words like β€œdelve” are somewhat more common helped shape model outputs, while the models themselves tend to favor more formal, Latin-derived vocabulary that sounds authoritative.

The result: AI frequently uses words like delve, and people are starting to copy that style.

What’s fascinating is that the influence isn’t staying inside the machine. Evidence suggests humans are increasingly using AI-favored words in everyday speech, creating a feedback loop where AI shapes the language of the people who trained it.

As podcaster Chris Williamson put it:

β€œThe creature that programmed the AI is being programmed by the AI.”

Aleksic’s response:

β€œIts reality is influencing our reality.”

Language has always evolved through books, television, and the internet. Now, AI may be becoming the newest force shaping how millions of people communicate.

Anthropic's Progress in Recursive Self-Improvement

Anthropic is making significant strides towards recursive self-improvement in AI, enabling systems to autonomously develop successors.

Key highlights include:

- Code output from engineers is now eight times higher than in 2021–2025.
- AI task completion times have doubled every four months, expanding from four-minute tasks to 12-hour projects.
- By May 2026, 80% of merged code originated from Claude, whose quality is now on par with human work.

Claude's success rate on open-ended tasks reached 76%, and efficiency tests show substantial improvements over human performance. The evolution of AI continues, stressing the importance of recursive self-improvement for future advancements.
